Chapter 2: A Motor Home Lemon Story

"If ever the pleasure of one has to be bought with the pain of the other, there better be no trade. A trade by which one gains and the other loses is a fraud." -Dagny Taggart Atlas Shrugged, Ayn Rand

An American Dream

Another great American dream: retire, buy a motor home, and see the country. Eduardo and Luisa Rodriguez worked hard all their lives. The children were living their own lives, and it was time for Mr. and Mrs. Rodriguez to enjoy theirs. They planned to sell their home and use part of the proceeds to purchase a motor home.

They decided on a mid-range RV that was within their budget yet large enough for comfort. They also decided on a new vehicle, as they didn’t want to live with other people’s mistakes.

They Took Delivery in a Different State

Mr. and Mrs. Rodriguez lived in Nevada. They were in California on vacation and happened to drive by an RV dealership. They stopped in, saw the model they liked, and started discussing the purchase. The motor home cost $150,000, but the salesperson told them that they would also have to pay California sales tax, which was thousands of dollars more.
