Chapter 3: A Used Car Lemon Story

"To cultivate kindness is a valuable part of the business of life." -Samuel Johnson

Ms. Peters Bought a Used Car

Ms. Peters was a single mother of three small children and not well off financially. She needed to replace her family’s old vehicle because it had finally stopped running altogether. Raising the money for the purchase was difficult.

Ms. Peters went to a local used car dealer and selected a used vehicle that met her needs.

There Was So Much She Didn’t Know

The car had an interesting history before Ms. Peters bought it:

Date: 02/15/1997

A rental car company leased the vehicle, new, early in 1997. This is called the in-service date, and is when the new motor vehicle warranty commenced.

The car rental company sold the car in February of 1998 to a used car dealer. At that time it had 18,000 miles on the odometer.
